(MyFoxBoston.com) -- A small mistake by a top tax preparer could lead to some major delays in refunds.
According to the IRS, hundreds of thousands of tax returns riled by H&R Block were filed incorrectly.
In previous years, preparers could leave a field blank to indicate "no" in reference to student tax credit, but this year it had to be filed in.
However, by the time the mistake was caught nearly 600,000 returns had been filed by H&R Block missing that required field.
The taxes affected were those filed between Feb. 14 and 22. Those wrongly filed tax returns could be delayed up to six weeks.
