(MyFoxBoston.com) – Some seagulls became an entertaining side show at the Sistine Chapel Wednesday.

As thousands gathered in St. Peter's Square hoping to catch a glimpse of smoke rising from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, a seagull perched itself on the head of the statue of St. Peter and then flew to the chimney.

Although the only excitement came in the form of the bird switching its balance from leg to leg, the Internet took notice.

A number of Tweets with the hashtag #smokecam and #seagulls appeared first. Then the bird, fittingly, hit Twitter.

The account @Vatican Seagull cropped up first, but it turned out to be a spoiler.

"I was created by @igerner so that no one else could make a dumb parody account," read the account's description.

Another account, @VaticanSeagulls, cropped up as well.

"Ciao! We're just hangin' here waitin' on some smoke!" read that account's description. The location was listed as "On the Chimney."

The seagull hung out for about an hour before taking off at about 1:15 p.m. EST.
