Another storm looms Monday into Tuesday - Boston News, Weather, Sports | FOX 25 | MyFoxBoston

Areas west of Boston expected to get jackpot snow totals

Posted: Updated:

Enjoy today's sun while you can.  Afternoon highs will reach the mid 30s.  It'll be cold but quiet with gradually increasing clouds.

Another winter storm is on the way.  A WINTER STORM WARNING is in place essentially north and west of 128. Snow will begin late tonight, likely after 10pm. Snow will fall heavily overnight. The morning commute will be a mess for most. Much of the snow will have fallen for Boston and points south by 8am. That could be as many as 6 inches in Boston.

There will be a transition to sleet and rain happening during the commute. The path we expect this storm to take would mean mixing likely to the New Hampshire border towns, but north of about Nashua, west through Worcester county along and north of route 2 may stay all snow. That would mean more than 10" in those areas with more than a foot in the higher elevations of southwest NH and points from about Concord, NH and north.

There will be less snow on the south shore due to a quicker change to sleet and rain. Rain will wash a lot of it away, especially from Plymouth to Cape Cod. It will all wind down late in the day Tuesday, but there will likely be a change back to snow before it ends. Some additional accumulation is possible on the back end.

Coastal area will not be as greatly effected this time. Southeast to east winds will pick up to over 30 mph sending rough surf to the coast. Vulnerable places like Plum Island certainly will have more problems. We don't anticipate major problems along the coast otherwise.

Stay tuned for further updates with that tricky rain/snow line.
