Nearly 30 people from four families were displaced from an early morning fire at an apartment building in the Northwest Side Albany Park neighborhood Sunday.
Crews responded to the fire in the three-story building in the 4800 block of North Lawndale Avenue sometime before 3:45 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.
A still-and-box alarm was called after firefighters discovered rear porches on the fully-occupied building in flames, according to dispatch reports.
There were no injuries from the blaze, according to Fire Media, but four families, with a total of 27 people, were displaced as a result, according to American Red Cross of Greater Chicago spokeswoman Patricia Kemp.
The Red Cross Disaster Action team responded to the fire scene and provided residents with food, clothing, and shelter, according to Kemp. The Red Cross has provided breakfast and mental health services to those displaced by the blaze, and opened up a temporary shelter nearby for the residents -- including about a dozen children, she said.
