CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
One more thing, about the park district's new proposal for Northerly Island, site of the old Meigs Field. The plan is to add almost six acres of land next to the Charter One Concert Pavilion which would create lawn seating for 20,000 more people. Right now there's only fixed seating there for 8,000.
With the great Chicago skyline in the background, this lakefront parkland has proven to be a unique, idyllic place to see live music. Live Nation entertainment is funding the project. They've promoted some great concerts here in the past, and with a vastly increased seating capacity, they'll be able to attract bigger and better acts.
It all sounds perfect, except for one problem--and it's a big one. They're not building a parking structure or creating any new spaces for the thousands of additional concert-goers. The park district says they'll ask people to bike, take public transit, or park nearby at soldier field. Nearby? Give me a break. And I don't think too many folks coming from Schaumburg will be biking in.
