Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

General Motors Co is recalling about 26,500 model-year 2013 Buick LaCrosse sedans and Cadillac SRX crossover vehicles in the United States to address a potential software problem that could increase the risk of a crash.

According to a release on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's web site, the problem may cause the transmission to inadvertently shift to Sport mode removing any transmission-related engine braking effect.

Dealers will reprogram the transmission control module free of charge.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the transmission control module free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on March 28, 2013. Cadillac owners may call 1-866-982-2339. Buick owners may call 1-866-694-6546.
