Hundreds of kids gather for 29th annual Marshmallow Drop

Posted: Updated:

Happy Good Friday from the 29th annual Marshmallow Drop. Jessica Starr reports children were eagerly waiting to run into the drop zone and collect marshmallows. Two Marshmallow Drops took place, one in Trenton and the second in Westland, both free and open to the public.

In celebration of Easter, thousands of marshmallows were dropped from the Easter Bunny's helicopter. Once the helicopter left, children were let into the drop area. They can collect as many marshmallows as they would like, but only one is necessary for an Easter-themed prize. The blizzard of marshmallows included more than 20,000 bunny tail-like, fluffy treats.

Wayne County parks hosted both Marshmallow Drops, the first at 9 a.m. at Elizabeth Park in Trenton, the second at 11 a.m. at Nankin Mills Park in Westland.

Three separate drops for children took place, based on age. Groups included ages 4 and younger, 5-7, and 8 and older. The event is not competitive and collectors only need one marshmallow to receive a prize. After picking up marshmallows, parents and children move to the treat area to redeem their marshmallow for a prize.

It's not just the styles that have changed with weddings over the years -- it's also the technology. Disposable cameras used to be the norm, but now there's an even simpler way for the bride and groom to get some candid photos of their special day.
