Snow to move out, temps warm up slightly for weekend

Posted: Updated:

A big ocean storm passed well south of us, but the easterly winds around it slammed in to westerly winds around a broad circulation over New England. That set up a convergence zone of heavier snowfall. Areas north of, essentially, the Braintree split saw a coating to 2". Areas to the south, 3-6", but a few heavier bands of intense snowfall rates of 1-2" an hour set up over parts of the south shore to south coast and the Cape producing impressive totals, some areas over half a foot!

This afternoon we'll continue to see cool conditions for this time of year with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s under a mix of clouds and sun. A piece of energy in the upper atmosphere will be pushing through, so a few of those afternoon clouds may produce a sprinkle or flurry or two. At this time, winds will also increase from the west.

The weekend actually looks pretty nice and typical for March with highs in the 40s. It will be rather breezy on Saturday, but Sunday will see less wind. The next storm threat is early next week.

One of the models coming in right now does bring snow in here next Monday morning from a coastal storm. UGH.

Snow will continue to wind down early this morning, but there will likely be many slippery spots for the morning commute, so take it easy.
