ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A large majority of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender middle and high schools students in New York say they are called names.

A survey by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network released Thursday found 90% of students regularly heard homophobic remarks. The biennial survey conducted in 2011 also reported that 29% of LGBT students were physically harassed because of their sexual orientation.

The advocacy group says more needs to be done to ensure that all New York schools are safe and affirming environments for LGBT students.
