Suspension lifted for 5-year-old that brought toy gun to school

Posted: Updated:

HOPKINTON, Mass (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 5-year-old boy no longer faces suspension for bringing a toy gun to school.

Jonah Stone reportedly brought toys, including a toy gun, to school earlier this week. He showed it to a first grade classmate and then that child showed it to another student. A teacher saw it and Jonah's mother, Christina Stone, was called to pick him up.

Stone, who appeared on the Fox 25 News Friday morning, said that on Friday she met with the Center School superintendent. The superintendent lifted the child's half-day suspension -- which hadn't been served.

Furthermore, Stone says the school will be rewriting its handbook in response to the case. Stone claimed the handbook had no rules regarding toy weapons in it.

Stone says she's also working on introducing a bill in Massachusetts that would prevent young children from getting punished for playing with toy weapons.
