Sal Albanese, 63, Democratic mayoral candidate and former, five-term New York City councilman, visited the set of Good Day NY on Monday to talk about his campaign.

Albanese left the city council in 1998.

"I've been in the legal field and I've been a financial services professional in the private sector for the past 15 years," said Albanese.

Albanese, who came to the United States at the age of 8,  ran for mayor in 1997 and finished third in the Democratic primary. His loss was all about money, said Albanese.

"The matching system is 6 to 1; in 1997 it was 2 to 1. I didn't raise enough money. I don't take money from developers, lobbyists and people who do business with the city. I raise money from average New Yorkers," said Albanese.

Albanese said his background as an immigrant, his law degree and his experience as a teacher in the New York City public schools, make him the best candidate.
