MYFOXNY.COM -

March 26 is National Diabetes Alert Day.

The one-day 'wake up call' is intended to alert the seven million Americans who go undiagnosed or are unaware of risks associated with the condition and encourage them to take a rist test.

The body of a person with diabetes either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should.

Diabetes can be deadly if left untreated.

The American Diabetes Association wants everyone to know their risks of developing the disease and to get tested.

A good place to start is by taking the Diabetes Risk Testat Diabetes.org.

If you have a positive score, you're encouraged to visit your doctor for further testing.
