West Bridgewater officer injured in crash, flown to hospital

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A West Bridgewater police officer was seriously injured in a two car crash that occurred in the area of 319 Manley Street on Tuesday.

According to The Enterprise, Police Sgt. Gregory Ames was taken to Boston Medical Center with head and chest injuries. He is in stable condition.

Ames was responding to a call around 5:30 p.m. when his cruiser collided with a pickup truck. The cruiser had his lights on and was attempting to pass the pickup truck on the left side, but the truck turned left and the cruiser crashed into the truck's left side, the newspaper reported.

The other driver was uninjured.

Massachusetts State Police troopers are assisting local officers.

An investigation is ongoing.
