HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan is in the hospital after multiple stress fractures caused excruciating back pain.
Donovan has turned over day-to-day operation of her office to County Administrator Ed Trawinski.
Donovan's chief of staff Jeanne Baratta tells The Record newspaper the 60-year-old was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center on Friday. Baratta says Donovan is expected to be released from the hospital soon. However, the executive will be sent to a rehabilitation center for several weeks.
Baratta says it's believed a knee injury may have aggravated the Republican's back pain.
Donovan is in the third year of a 4-year term as county executive.
