State Police: Dangerous fugitive caught after 33 years on the run

GORHAM, Maine ( – A three-time convicted rapist, who has been on the run for over 33 years, was apprehended in Maine on Wednesday.

The Massachusetts State Police told FOX 25's Bob Ward that they had captured Gary Allen Irving, their number one most dangerous fugitive.

Police said Irving has been on the run for 33 years, 260 days. He was tracked down by the state police's Violent Fugitive Apprehension Squad at approximately 9:15 p.m. in Gorham, Maine.

Irving was reportedly living under an assumed name with a family, and was found with 10 weapons: seven rifles, two sawed-off shotguns, and a handgun.

According to authorities, Irving fled after being sentenced to life.

Irving was convicted in 1979 for the rape of a 16-year-old Cohasset girl, as well attacks on two other women. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
