Chicago's Most Wanted: Suburban bank bandit

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The FBI will tell you that many criminals, and bank robbers are no exception, just seem to have the attitude that they will never get caught, that they are too smart for police.

But this week, the FBI is hoping to prove a suburban bandit wrong. This individual hit two banks in the south suburbs in less than a week. The first robbery happened at the Chase bank on Front Street near Wolf Road in Mokena on February 21st. Five days later he held up another bank, this time the First Midwest Bank on 80th Avenue at 167th in Tinley Park.

In both cases, this individual walked into the bank, approached the teller window, and simply placed a bag on the counter and ordered the bank employee to fill it with money. He did not have any kind of note, nor did he display a weapon. But as we can see from the bank security camera photos, he did not do much to disguise his identity besides the hat and the sunglasses, particularly in the first robbery in Mokena. The FBI believes someone out there knows the identity of this person and could easily recognize him from the photos. It's also possible that someone might recognize the dark jacket that was worn during the robbery in Mokena, since it has a unique emblem on the chest, an emblem that appears to read "MGA."

Many bank robbers tend to operate close to home in areas familiar to them or where they are most comfortable, so it's possible the bandit is still close by. But agents are not limiting their focus to that area. The FBI is offering a reward for information that helps agents identify and arrest the individual responsible for these two bank robberies.

Here's the FBI's description of the Mokena Bandit:

--White male

--5'5'' to 5'6''

--220 to 250 pounds

--40's or 50's

He is considered a danger to the community if you see him call police.
