ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) -

Mayor Alan Lambert of Romulus was no where to be found on Tuesday to answer our questions after we learned what sources say happened last Monday when the state police raided his home.

It was about three o'clock last week at Romulus City Hall when Lambert abruptly adjourned a meeting saying he had a pressing engagement elsewhere.

He had a meeting with Moe across the street, whose business has been having some trouble with the city.  Now according to our sources, the mayor says he wasn't talking about those problems.  He was simply seeing Moe to get a $15,000 undocumented loan to get a new car.  However, what the mayor didn't know was that Moe was wearing a wire.

So Lambert came home with the money, put it in his safe, then the state police showed up.  The mayor let them inside, and they took him to the darkened bathroom and shined an ultraviolet flashlight on him.  Guess what?  We're told his hands were all full of ink.

"I left on my own terms only because I could not support this administration any longer," said Robert Dickerson, Romulus' recently resigned police chief.  "I felt that any time someone's home gets raided, there's a reason they raid your home.  That means they have evidence that something you've done or something you have is illegal."

Dickerson said this couldn't come at a worse time for Romulus because the chief of police before him and some of his underlings are scheduled to go on trial this summer for using undercover money to buy sexual favors from strippers, marijuana and cocktails.

"It couldn't come at a worse time because we were making so much headway in cleaning up the community's image and the reputation and so forth, and now not only do we have a trial coming up in July of those five former officers, but now we've got an issue with the mayor, which is probably going to lead to a trial," he remarked.

Mayor Lambert, you can have it your way or you can do it the right way.  I'm told the authorities have lots of tape, allegedly of you taking money from local business people.  Do the right thing.
