91-year-old arrested after barricade standoff

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police on Long Island say a 91-year-old man was arrested after striking a neighbor with his cane and then barricading himself inside his home.

Suffolk County Police say that John Walsh, of Centereach, is charged with criminal mischief, civilian harassment and menacing.

Police say he was taken into custody after police set up a command post near his home and emergency services officers and a hostage negotiating team arrived on the scene.

Information on whether Walsh had a lawyer or other details about the incident were not immediately available.

Centereach is a small hamlet in Suffolk County with a population of just over 30,000.
