Metro Detroit's 'Mother Talley' is oldest person in the U.S.

INKSTER, Mich. (WJBK) -

At 113, records confirm Jeralean Talley is the oldest person in America and the third oldest in the world, and she calls metro Detroit her home.

"Mother Talley", as her family calls her, loves to dance, but said that is not the secret to a long life.  Born in Georgia in 1899, she said the Golden Rule is the only way to live life.  

Talley went to church every Sunday until about four months ago when her health started to decline, but deacons still come by the house every first Sunday to give her communion.

Asked her why she thinks she has lived so long and Talley is quick to tell you the man above.

"I asked him not to let me be sick, let me not be blind and let me not be deaf.  So far my prayers have been answered," she said.

Talley drinks coffee, not wine.  She has a daughter, three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and now a great-great grandchild, a two-week-old and the fifth generation Talley, a blessing the matriarch doesn't take for granted.

"When he [is] ready for me, he's going to take me.  Until that time [comes], I'll still be here.  How soon or how long, I don't know," she said.

Talley bowled until she was 103 years old.  She still goes fishing every year.  She will turn 114 on May 23.
