Ethics Committee given temporary subpoena power to investigate complaint

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – House lawmakers voted Thursday to give the Ethics Committee temporary subpoena power to investigate an unspecified complaint made to the committee last month, according to the State House News Service.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo's office confirmed in March that an investigation had been opened into "serious allegations" against an unnamed member of the House.

It all began after a State House employee brought an unspecified complaint to the House counsel on March 15. After a preliminary review, the counsel found "sufficient cause" to launch a full investigation.

Multiple sources confirmed to FOX 25 News that Massachusetts State Rep. John Fresolo (D-Worcester) is the subject of the investigation.

According to Fresolo's website, he is serving his seventh term in office. The website lists him as a father of two daughters in their late teens and a lifetime resident of Worcester.

Initial reports claimed Fresolo was stepping down, but last week he told the State House News Service "I'm going to be a state rep for a long time."
