Police: Lawrence bank robbed at gunpoint twice in under a week

Posted: Updated:

LAWRENCE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The TD Bank branch located on South Broadway in Lawrence was robbed at gunpoint twice in less than a week by the same suspect, police said.

Lawrence Police Chief John Romero told The Eagle Tribune the TD bank located at 305 South Broadway was robbed last Thursday, March 28 and Wednesday night. Police believe the same suspect is responsible for both armed robberies.

Police said the most recent robbery occurred April 3 at about 4 p.m. The suspect approached the teller with a gun, placed a small gray plastic bag on the counter and demanded money. Two tellers emptied their cash drawers in the plastic bag, and the suspect then fled.

During the first armed robbery, which occurred at about 5:20 p.m., the suspect reportedly wore a mask covering the lower half of his face. He walked in to the lobby, pulled out a gun, told patrons not to move, and pushed others as he made his way to the teller's counter, police said.

In the same manner as the second robbery, the suspect reportedly handed the teller a bag and demanded money before walking out of the building, reports the newspaper.

According to the police report, in both instances, the suspect reportedly made off with a bag full of cash.

The suspect is described as 5'6" tall and approximately 150 pounds. He reportedly spoke in broken English and wore similar clothing during both incidents.

Police have increased patrols around banks in the city until the suspect is caught.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lawrence Police Department at 978-794-5900.
