RIVERVIEW, Mich. (WJBK) -

A body was found in a Riverview landfill.  Investigators say the death of 29-year-old Derek Golden of Grosse Pointe Park appears suspicious, although they still don't know how he died.

"Mr. Golden's body was recovered amongst demolition debris from home demolition," said Riverview Police Deputy Chief Clifford Rosebohm.

An excavator moving debris from one part of the landfill to another made the gruesome discovery.

Police say the troubled young man with a history of drug-related arrests was last seen on December 9.  The family car, a 2006 black Subaru Tribeca, was discovered at Warren and Conner in the DHS parking lot there on Detroit's east side.  He had told his parole officer he was checking into the Salvation Army for substance abuse, then last week, more than three months after his family last saw him, his body was discovered.

"At this point in time, we're also looking into his phone records to kind of give us some more clues as to what happened from December 9th moving forward to the 26th of March," Rosebohm explained.

Police say they have been receiving tips, but they need more information, and Crime Stoppers is now offering a generous reward.  You can remain anonymous.  If you have any information on the death of Derek Golden, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

"If the tip that leads to an arrest is received by midnight tonight, there is an additional $1,000 reward for a total reward of $3,500," said John Broad with Crime Stoppers.  "We cannot bring a murdered family member home, but we can bring justice to a community and closure to the family."

The case was originally about workplace discrimination. Now it's dragged on for more than a decade despite the case appearing to be one that the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation can't win.
