Police: Man had unregistered guns in unlicensed van

WHATELY, Mass. – Police in Whately said they found three unlicensed guns in a van during a traffic stop Thursday.

Police said they stopped the van, driven by 33-year-old Timothy Harding, of Brattleboro, Vt., on the northbound side of Interstate 91 at 11:45 p.m.

Harding told an officer that that he was travelling home from Long Island where he had bought an amplifier on Craigslist.org.

The officer said he discovered that the van wasn't registered and called a tow truck to remove the vehicle from the highway.

When the officer was checking the vehicle, he said he found two unlicensed handguns, a .308-caliber rifle and 159 rounds of ammunition.

Harding was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
