PHOENIX -

A group fighting against gun violence gathered in Phoenix Friday, hoping to send a message to Arizona's senators.

Organizations such as Moms Demand Action, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and Arizonans For Gun Safety petitioned outside of the office of Senator Jeff Flake, urging Arizonans to let Senators Jeff Flake and John McCain know they are ready to see congress take action to fight against gun violence.

Relatives of victims from the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting were also outside the senators office to present the petition.

"My son was in the 18th row, that gun had a hundred barrel magazine on it," said valley resident Tom Teves, whose son was killed in the theater shooting. "The fact that this, basically, weapon of war, could fire so many bullets in such a short period of time, he was pinned down protecting his girlfriend."

90 percent of Arizonans want every gun buyer to pass a background check, as Arizona is the ninth-deadliest state for gun violence.
