Swastikas, racial slurs scrawled on Medford elementary school

Posted: Updated:

MEDFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The racist graffiti is gone now, but Sunday morning Medford city workers worked to remove racist slurs and swastikas that were spray-painted on various surfaces of the Columbus Elementary School and playground.

Police are investigating the graffiti which was done overnight and into Sunday morning just in time for little league practice.

"We use this field, there's people probably here every day," Bill O'Brien, a concerned Medford citizen and parent, told FOX 25's Crystal Haynes.

In addition to the racist slurs and symbols, "Crew 28" and what looks like a clover were spray-painted in some spots.

Police have released few details, but say they are investigating the acts as criminal. Detectives documented the vandalism, but are not saying if they know who is responsible.

"It's a shame, but in this day and age, people still do these types of stupid things," Medford City Councilor Richard Caraviello said.

The city councilor said he is going to address this matter during this week's city meeting.
