Gloucester Scout angered by vandalism to project

Posted: Updated:

GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Gloucester Eagle Scout says he's depressed and angered that vandals destroyed his community service project, a digital guide to the trails in the city's wild and undeveloped interior known as Dogtown.

Alan Davis says he put more than 250 hours of time into "Digital Dogtown."

The 17-year-old high school junior's project involved putting up 19 posts along hiking trails in Dogtown that included a map to the next site, as well as a QC code than when scanned with a smartphone provided hikers with historical information, additional maps and fun facts.

The Gloucester Daily Times (http://bit.ly/16Mnolc ) reports that when Davis inspected the project after some rough weather recently, he found that wooden posts had been snapped, burned, defaced with graffiti, and even uprooted entirely.

He's vowing to rebuild.
