NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

The manager of a popular diner in northern New Jersey has been charged in an alleged murder plot.

Authorities say 45-year-old Georgios Spyropoulos, who manages the Tick Tock Diner in Clifton, tried to have his uncle killed. His uncle is co-owner of the Tick Tock in New Jersey and the Tick Tock in Manhattan.

Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa says it's believed Spyropoulos wanted to steal a large amount of cash that his uncle, Alexandros Sgourdos, kept in a safe.

"Motivated by greed, Spyropoulos allegedly had planned in great detail how he would have his uncle tortured, robbed and murdered, and he had enlisted two men who he thought were going to carry out his ruthless plot," said Chiesa. "Fortunately, the State Police were able to completely ensnare him in his own diabolical trap."

He says Spyropoulos told an undercover trooper posing as a hit-man to make sure to get the combination to his uncle's safe before killing him. He also allegedly provided a gun.

After troopers arrested Spyropoulos, his home was searched and two semiautomatic handguns, one shotgun and one assault style rifle were seized. A search of his vehicle, a silver Mercedes Benz, revealed six cell phones and several thousand dollars in cash. It is not clear what the large number of phones were used for.

Spyropoulos was initially charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempt to commit murder, and unlawful possession of a weapons. He was lodged in Passaic County Jail in default of $1 million full cash bail.

    Newark school enrollment problems

The school year in Newark is getting off to a rocky start. Classes start in less than two weeks and parents are still waiting in line for hours to find out where their kids are enrolled. The problem is being blamed on a glitch in the school's new online open enrollment system. To say mother of three Jennifer Caraballo is frustrated may be an understatement. She is one of hundreds of Newark parents desperately now trying to find a new school for her children.
