(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Representative Ed Markey denies he is overconfident about winning the April 30 primary, even though FOX 25 has learned he has scheduled a fundraiser for May, days after the primary.
Markey is running in the Democratic primary against Rep. Stephen Lynch.
FOX 25 political reporter Sharman Sacchetti has learned the $1,000 a plate fundraiser is scheduled to take place on May 5 at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem. Tickets range from $50 to $1,000.
"I have put in 12 hours a day, 7 days a week since Dec. 27 with no days off. So I'm putting in 84 hours to 90 hours every week in this campaign. I'm taking nothing for granted," Markey responded when asked if he was taking the lead in the polls for granted.
In an interview with Sacchetti, Markey says he is focused on the primary even though the fundraiser for his Senate run happens days later.
"The only thing I'm really focused on is what is happening in the next 20 days until primary night. You cannot take anything for granted," Markey said.
Markey added that he is not overconfident, but rather paranoid and "only the paranoid survive."
