New NHL partnership aimed at fighting homophobia in sports
The National Hockey League is teaming up with an organization designed to fight homophobia in sports.
According to NHL.com, the league is partnering with the You Can Play Project to further solidify their motto that "Hockey is for Everyone."
The You Can Play Project was created in March 2012 by Philadelphia Flyers scout Patrick Burke.
Under the new partnership, the NHL and You Can Play Project will commit to education and training, as well as produce public service announcements. Seminars will be conducted at the NHL's rookie symposium in order to educate young players on LGBT issues. The league will also offer confidential counseling to players looking to seek information on matters regarding sexual orientation.
