Violence escalates in Chicago

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A South Side Greater Grand Crossing shooting scene is just one of nearly a dozen this weekend in Chicago. Since Friday, four people were killed and at least 17 injured in shootings across the city.

Red crime scene tape, police patrolling the block and an occasional resident emerging from their home are the aftermath of Sunday afternoon's shooting.

Chicago police tell Fox 32's Tisha Lewis a 32 year old was struck in the chest, a 24 year old was shot in the leg and a 35 year old was hit in the chest and underarm.

The victims are all male and family friends say they are expected to survive.

The gunman reportedly escaped on foot down a gangway on the 7400 block of South Champlain. Early Sunday evening detectives remained in the South Side Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, where Jermaka Common lives.

Common is still mourning the loss of her brother.

"My brother Devon Common, he had went to the store about three months ago to get a cup of coffee and he never returned home," said Common.

Devon Common was 27 years old.

On Sunday afternoon, the Common family was packing up their belongings and moving to another neighborhood, hoping to get away from the violence.

"I don't get what's going on around here. I guess we all need to come together and stop the violence because it's getting too ridiculous," said Common.

Residents at the home where Sunday afternoon's shooting happened say their loved ones were outside enjoying the warmer weather when they were shot.
