BOSTON (AP) - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez dedicated each mile of his Boston Marathon run to an individual veteran from Massachusetts.
The Cohasset businessman and former Navy SEAL is the only candidate in the state's special U.S. Senate election to undertake the 26.2 mile race. Gomez has run other marathons, but Monday's race is his first attempt at Boston.
On the campaign trail, Gomez is squaring off against fellow Republicans Norfolk state Rep. Daniel Winslow and former U.S. Attorney from Massachusetts Michael Sullivan.
Congressman Stephen Lynch and Edward Markey are facing off against each other on the Democratic side.
The primaries are scheduled for April 30.
The special election to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of John Kerry to become secretary of state is scheduled for June 25.
