US Sen. Warren hails those who aided after bombing

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has used her first speech on the floor of the Senate to praise those who rushed to the aid of the injured and dying after the bombings of the Boston Marathon.

The Massachusetts Democrat said Wednesday she wanted to remember those who died, support those who survived, and honor those who served.

Warren hailed the police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors and nurses who rushed to help after twin bombs Monday killed three and injured more than 170.

She also said ordinary citizens also acted heroically.

Warren said she spoke to one man who raced over after the first blast to try to free those who were trapped only to be hit by the second blast.

Fellow Massachusetts Democratic Sen. William "Mo" Cowan also spoke Wednesday and joined with Warren to offer a resolution honoring those who rushed to help and remembering the victims.
