Talasia Hamm, 1, died at the Springside condos in southwest Atlanta on Wednesday. It is believed that someone had temporarily sat the metal door in front of a vacant property while doing repairs.
A neighbor named Mario he heard the bang and lifted the door off Talasia.
"I put ice on her head and massaged her temple. As I massaged her temple, she came back to consciousness and choked on blood. When she choked on blood she passed back out," Mario said.
City officials said there had been citations at the property before, but FOX 5's Morse Diggs noted that they are individually-owned condominiums.
"She was a joyful little girl, she liked to run around play, she had a little dance she'd do. That's what you remember about her, you know? She had the best little dance," said Justin Hodges, the girl's father.
A memorial has been erected next to the apartment where Talasia was fatally injured.
