Boston eerily quiet as city waits, watches manhunt

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) — Hospitals in Boston are keeping patients rather than discharge even those well enough to go home as authorities continue to urge people to stay indoors during the search for a suspect still at large in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Boston Medical Center issued a statement Friday saying the hospital is fully staffed and the emergency department is open. BMC has canceled outpatient appointments. People entering the facility are being screened.

A statement from Brigham and Women's Hospital says staff and patients can leave, but they're urging everyone to stay in place.

Streets in downtown Boston are eerily quiet with only a few security officers strolling in front of buildings. Colleges, courts and the city's transit system have shut down as the manhunt continues.
