Herald: Bulger lawyers claim DOJ is withholding evidence

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Lawyers for James "Whitey" Bulger are requesting another hearing, claiming the Department of Justice is withholding evidence.

According to the Boston Herald, Bulger's lawyers asked the judge to intervene in court documents that were filed Monday. Specifically, they want information contained in letters that Bulger apparently wrote in solitary confinement at the Plymouth House of Correction. They also want to see proof that Bulger was never an FBI informant.

A separate hearing that was scheduled for last Friday was canceled because the city of Boston was in lockdown. That hearing would have allowed Bulger's lawyers to present their defense of his alleged government issued immunity.

The hearing has yet to be rescheduled.

Bulger is accused in the murders of 19 people.
