CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The American suspect, Robel Phillipos, grew up in Cambridge and attended high school with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Phillipos, who was born in the U.S., faces a felony for lying to federal investigators, which carries up to eight years in prison.

Phillipos and Tsarnaev were 2011 graduates from Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.

Phillipos spent most of his life living at a high-rise on Memorial Drive with his mother, who was visibly shaken when FOX 25 found her outside of court.

City officials tell FOX 25 Phillipos was a member of the Cambridge Kids' Council from March 2010 to March 2012. He also served on the Youth Involvement Subcommittee from 2008 to 2009.

Neighbors in the building say they have seen Tsarnaev inside on multiple occasions. A Phillipos family friend told FOX 25 the teenager never seemed suspicious.

Next to Phillipos' Memorial Drive apartment building is the Mobil gas station where the man only known as "Danny" escaped after he was allegedly carjacked by the Tsarnaev brothers. Right now, there is no connection, but it's all part of the investigation.
