Posted: Updated:

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Florida man has pleaded guilty to bilking an 85-year-old Massachusetts woman out of more than $100,000 by faking an injury on her property.

William Reed of St. Petersburg, Fla., pleaded guilty to larceny over $250 from a person over 60 and attempting to commit a crime. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, with six months to serve, with the balance suspended for three years. He was also ordered to repay the Tynsgborough woman almost $109,000.

The Sun of Lowell (http://bit.ly/15boFqC ) reports prosecutors say Reed was hired to do odd jobs around the woman's home in April 2009. They say he tripped and claimed he hurt himself. After returning to Florida, Reed began contacting the victim and asking for money. He says he blew it all at casinos.
