Friends remember Chris 'Mac Daddy' Kelly of Kris Kross

Millions of fans who grew up listening to Kris Kross are remembering Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly for his impact on the music industry in Atlanta and across the country in the 1990's.

Kelly died on Wednesday after being found unresponsive in his Fulton County home. Police say they suspect he was using cocaine and heroin prior to his death.

DJ Nabs worked with Kris Kross during their European tour with Michael Jackson back in the 1990s.

"Fame is tough pill to swallow, especially when it's gone and you have to be able to move on and deal with it and understand that the music industry isn't actually life. Your life is your life, your health is your life. Your friends, your family, your goals can be more than about being famous. This is just my opinion," said DJ Nabs.

DJ Nabs says friends and family members are planning both a private and public memorial for Chris Kelly.

Jermaine Dupri discovered Kris Kross in Atlanta when they performed at a mall. They weren't even in high school when them to his label, So So Def Records.

The music mogul wrote an open letter to his fans on his website about Kelly's death, saying,

"To the world Chris was Mac Daddy but to me he was a son I never had. As much as you may think I taught him, he taught me. God has blessed me to be in the presence of so many naturally talented people and Chris was one."
