Five people who were gathered for a vigil mourning the death of a man were shot in Newark's South Ward.

The gunman got out of a dark colored vehicle in front of 804 S. 16th Street and fired several shots striking the victims at about 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Among those shot was a 10-year-old girl, said police.

The shooter got back into the car and fled the scene.

It is unclear what lead to the shooting. The man being mourned at the vigil had died early Thursday morning in a car accident.

All the victims are hospitalized in stable condition. Their names have not been released.

No arrests have been made in the shooting.

Newark Police urge anyone with information about the shootings to contact police at 973 -733 3981 or 877-NWK-TIPS.
