Crowds come out for annual Cinco de Mayo parade

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

It was a party in MexicanTown Sunday for Cinco de Mayo, including Detroit's annual parade. The colorful event along Vernor Highway is more than 40 years old.

As always, crowds came out to enjoy great Mexican food and fun, but Detroit's financial situation could put the parade in jeopardy. Organizers say they'll need corporate sponsors and support from the community to keep the tradition alive.

Cinco de Mayo is a commemoration of the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Mexican forces were victorious over French troops. It's observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
