Funeral director on burial plot for bomb suspect: Russia is a great idea

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Worcester funeral director Peter Stefan says ideally Boston Marathon Bomber No. 1 Tamerlan Tsarnaev would be buried in his native country.

Stefan spoke live Monday morning about the search for a burial plot for Tsarnaev. "Russia is a great idea," he said.

Finding a burial plot for Tsarnaev has been a struggle. Stefan said he will go to the city where Tsarnaev lived, but the city of Cambridge has already said it doesn't want Tsarnaev.

Stefan says he hasn't been able to find a cemetery in Massachusetts willing to accept Tsarnaev's remains and that he plans on asking Cambridge to provide a plot.

Cambridge City Manager Robert Healy has urged Stefan and Tsarnaev's family not to request a burial permit for the city-owned Cambridge Cemetery because the city would be "adversely impacted" by the resulting protests and media coverage. He said Sunday federal agencies should take the lead in the burial.

The 26-year-old Tsarnaev died following a shootout with police on April 19.
