Court docs: Dover man claims UNH student died during sex act gone wrong

DOVER, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Dover man charged with killing University of New Hampshire student Elizabeth Marriott in October has allegedly told police he accidentally killed her during the course of a consensual sex act involving erotic asphyxiation.

Seth Mazzaglia, 33, initially lied to police about his alleged Oct. 9 encounter with Marriott saying he believed someone else had physically strangled Marriott while he was not in her presence; however, later, he reportedly came clean regarding his involvement saying her death was the result of a BDSM sex act gone wrong, reports Foster's Daily Democrat.

The statements Mazzaglia reportedly made to police Oct. 12 were unsealed Monday.

According to the affidavit obtained by the newspaper, Mazzaglia told police he was playing strip poker with Marriott and his girlfriend on Oct. 9 when the three of them began talking about BDSM. The conversation "eventually led to a consensual sexual encounter involving autoerotic asphyxiation."

During the act, Mazzaglia said he put a rope around Marriott's neck and applied pressure. He then said Marriott suffered what appeared to be a seizure. He checked her body for pulse in multiple locations and placed a plastic grocery bag over her head.

In the document, Mazzaglia also described how he and McDonough disposed of Marriott's body. He told investigators he threw her body off of a small cliff in Portsmouth into the Piscataqua River. He also allegedly threw her cell phone into the water.

Mazzaglia said he and McDonough then traveled to several other locations, including a Residence Inn in Portsmouth and UNH, to dispose of materials they used to conceal the act. He said they arrived back at his apartment at about 6:15 a.m. and discarded the clothes they had been wearing.

Mazzaglia is facing first- and second-degree murder charges in connection with Marriott's death.
