BOSTON (AP) — Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey has released a television ad highlighting his role in overhauling the nation's telecommunications laws.
In the 30-second ad, Markey said his efforts to break up monopolies helped fuel the Internet revolution and make possible the creation of companies like Google and Facebook, and of innovations like the smartphone.
Markey said those changes also helped create new jobs in Massachusetts and around the country.
Markey's Republican opponent, Gabriel Gomez, criticizes the ad. He says it helps remind voters that Markey has been a member of the state's U.S. House delegation for more than three decades.
Gomez said the ad also fails to mention the donations Markey has received over the years from political action committees representing the telecommunications industry.
The election is June 25.
