BOSTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 7th grade student at the St. Patrick School died after being hit by a van Thursday morning in Boston.
The Boston school identified the victim as Barrington "Barry" Brinson. Police said Brinson sustained a significant head injury when he was struck just before 6:50 a.m. on Cambridge Street.
Brinson was taken to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton, where he died of his injuries.
In a statement released by the St. Patrick School Thursday, administrators express their grief over the loss of the 12-year-old.
"Speaking on behalf of the St. Patrick School community, I want to express our deep sadness over Barry's death," reads the statement from Principal Mary Lanata.
According to the school, Brinson is survived by his parents and a brother.
Aegis Energy Service, whose driver was involved in the fatal accident, released a statement Thursday.
"We wish to express our condolences to the individuals and families involved," says the company. "We continue to offer whatever comfort and prayers we can to those who have been affected."
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office says while there were no "immediate signs of criminality," an investigation is ongoing to determine whether or not any charges will be filed.
