SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Police said just after 8:00 a.m. Thursday, the 64-year-old homeowner of a house on Hilton Road was running out on her daily routine. As she backed her Dodge Charger out of the driveway, she thought something hit her driver side mirror. Instead of putting the car in park, she put it in reverse, pinning herself between the house and the car when she tried to get out.

Neighbors watched in horror not sure what was happening. Cecilia Thompson said the homeowner has no known medical issues, keeps to herself and is always busy.

"She works for the State of Michigan, and she does work really late hours," Thompson said.  "She travels back and forth to Lansing, so she does come in at odd hours."

Southfield police said the woman was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries to her arm, but the rescue took some time. Police reached into the car and put it in park. Crews then crawled on top of the Charger trying to figure out the safest way to free the driver.

Workers were able to shift the car, eventually freeing the woman.  She is expected to make a full recovery.
