Crews respond to two fires at same home in Wakefield

Posted: Updated:

WAKEFIELD, Mass. ( – A fire at a home in Wakefield had to be extinguished twice Thursday into Friday.

Crews were called to the home at 63 Gould Street the first time at about 6:30 p.m. for a smaller fire that started in the home's basement and spread to the front of the home.. Wakefield Fire Chief Michael Sullivan said the department used thermal imaging equipment to ensure the fire was out and cleared the scene at about 8:30 p.m.

Sullivan said that just before 1 a.m. crews were called back to the home when the fire rekindled and spread to every floor.

Multiple towns were called to the scene. There were no reports of any injuries.

Sullivan said the home had "balloon frame construction" which made it easy for the fire to spread without being detected.

Sullivan told FOX 25's Catherine Parrotta that he and the department feel terrible that the fire rekindled.

It was not immediately known what caused the first fire or what caused it to ignite the second time. The State Fire Marshal was investigating.
