DETROIT (WJBK) -

Weddings can be expensive, and for couples facing a mountain of medical bills, it can be tough to pay for the big day.  That is where Wish Upon a Wedding can help.

The not for profit group helps couples coping with serious life altering circumstances.

A big fundraiser for the Michigan chapter called "Party at the Port" is being held Friday night.  Around 400 people are expected at Port Detroit.

"It's going to be a great event.  We've got a great showcase of the best of the best people in the wedding and event industry, and we're just so excited to give back to such a great charitable cause," said Ryan Angott with Continental Catering and Events.

"We are actually announcing our very first couple tonight.  We're very excited.  So it will be our first Michigan wish.  They will get married this summer," said Laura Allis from Wish Upon a Wedding Michigan.
