CANTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - A 24-year-old Stoughton man is facing several charges following a Canton car crash that killed his ex-girlfriend, a junior at Curry College.

Sean Jackman has been charged with operating under the influence, motor vehicle homicide, speeding, and marked lanes violation for the crash which occurred on Bolivar Street just after 12 a.m. Saturday.

Stoughton District Court Judge Richard Savignano imposed a $500,000 cash bail Monday on Jackman, who was arraigned from his bed at Boston Medical Center.

The victim, 20-year-old Evan Bard, of Agawam, was a nursing major in the Class of 2014 and a member of the cheerleading squad, Curry officials said.

Evan's family expressed their gratitude for the support they've received.

"The Bard Family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers which mean so much during this difficult time," says a statement from Curry, "They also would like to thank Evan's teachers, classmates, and teammates for making her time at Curry a happy one."

Police said Jackman was traveling on the westbound side of the road when he hit a wall and then a tree. Bard was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jackman was taken to the hospital with head injuries.

According to friends, they had been driving home from a wedding.

Prosecutors said Jackman had been an intern at the Norfolk District Attorney's office and his father was employed there.

Jackman is due back in court on June 10.

The college is offering grief counseling to students. Anyone interested in the support services can call 617-333-2222. While the semester ended at the conclusion of finals Saturday, the school will continue to offer support to students and faculty.
