New Details In Case Of Missing Delco Mother

Posted: Updated:

Mother's Day just wasn't the same for Olga Ortiz of Newark, NJ.  She said her daughter Melissa Rodriguez of Collingdale, would have spent the holiday weekend with family up there, but has not been seen or heard from in weeks.

"I can't celebrate Mother's Day because she's not here," she said over the phone.

"We love you.  We miss you.  We hope and pray that you are safe," she said.

Rodriguez told family members she was taking the train to visit them on April 19 but never showed up. All has been quiet ever since.

Police say her phone is dead and her car is still at her house. She is missed by her two little girls as well.

Meanwhile Collingdale Police say Rodriguez applied for a protection order that was denied not long before she went missing.  They also say several calls were made to the home to investigate domestic disturbances in the past.

Police Chief Robert Adams said Melissa and husband Jose are in the middle of a difficult divorce that may have been spurred by Melissa learning of her husband's second family, including a baby.

He said neighbors spotted him dumping furniture from the house they shared, including a sofa found on the front lawn.

Police also released more details about the couple's rocky relationship.  Adams said Jose Rodriguez controlled Melissa and would manage all of the money she spent, and that she did not have any credit cards.  They say she began dating someone else in interest of moving on as well.

Police have gained more information about the couple's past but have not learned much about where she may be now. Adams said police may reboot the investigation by talking to neighbors again and knocking on doors.

They have more questions for Jose Rodriguez but say he has not talked since hiring an attorney.

FOX29 contacted his attorney for comment but we have not yet heard back.
