'Rain Room' at MoMA

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The sun may be shining outside, but inside a peculiar cube on West 54th Street in Manhattan it's pouring.

"I brought my hat so just in case I did get wet, I could cover," said one visitor.

But hats need not apply at the "Rain Room" exhibit at the museum of modern art unless you're running around quickly.

"We got a little wet, but then we learned that you need to put your arm out to slow it down," one woman said.

This is an immersing rain fall that allows you to stand in the rain without getting wet. Sensors detect your position and stop the rain when you're coming through.

"We've given the installation eyes, basically it recognizes that you're in it and then it switches off the rain above you," said Hannes Koch, the artist. He said the greatest payoff is seeing the reaction of the guests who walk through it.

"It's often a smile, it's contemplation, and it's amazement that they can control the weather or seemingly control the weather around them," he said.

One visitor told Fox 5: "It's just surrounding us, it's just beautiful, it's like being God."

The exhibit is open through July 28.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.

Emotions about police brutality were still raw at a protest in Harlem Wednesday night. Eric Garner died after police put him in an apparent choke hold. Cops stopped garner for the minor offense of selling loose cigarettes in Staten Island. Officers had been enforcing the so-called broken windows policy.

Archeologists say they've solved a mystery that started with the rebuilding at ground zero. During the excavation at the World Trade Center Site, workers uncovered part of an old ship. No one knew where it came from. Now after years of study, researchers believe the sloop dates back to 1773, built from wood harvested from Pennsylvania, the same kind used to build Independence Hall.
